Bring your love of wooden boats and adventure to the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton. Marvel at their beauty and craftsmanship when you see your own reflection in the hand-polished wood. Step back in time as a tour guide shares the history of freshwater boats and enjoy the fascinating, amusing, and sometimes tragic stories of the boats and captains that navigated the St. Lawrence River.

Next, tour the 106’ houseboat “La Duchesse” which brings the one-hundred-year-old gracious river lifestyle back to life. It was built in 1903 for millionaire hotelier George Boldt, the former manager of New York City’s famed Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and owner of the legendary Boldt Castle. The houseboat has been in continuous use as an elegant summer residence ever since. She was generously donated to the museum by the McNally family of Wellesley Island and Chicago, IL, and has been open to visitors since July of 2005. Gather at the Antique Boat Museum Dock and board a Clayton Island Boat for a narrated Tour downriver riding the St Lawrence Seaway where thousands of boats cruise daily.

Enjoy lunch with an amazing view of the waterfront at RiverEdge Resort in Alexandria Bay

Next, board a Clayton Island Tours boat for a visit to the Boldt Castle Yacht House on Wellesley Island. Inside you’ll find a collection of antique wooden boats on display; some of which are from the original Boldt fleet. The intricately-designed service bay features custom-crafted steel trusses, mechanical over-head traveling cranes, screw jacks and more. This grand landmark showcases some of the Thousand Islands Region’s finest vessels. It also features an 1892 steam yacht from the pre-gasoline era. In the late 1800s, many private steam yachts plied the waters of the St. Lawrence and Hudson Rivers, Long Island Sound and many large lakes in the region, including the Great Lakes. A definite must see for nautical buffs!

Find a trove of treasures at the H. Lee White Marine Museum in Oswego. Paintings, models and artifacts take you back through 300 years of maritime history. See the “Lance Knapp,” the last steam powered vessel on the Oswego Canal, and the “LT-5,” the last remaining large tugboat from the Normandy invasion of World War II. It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1992 thanks to the heroic action of her crew on D-Day.

End this wonderful day at Rudy’s Fish Fry (a Local Favorite) located alongside Lake Ontario and enjoy it’s spectacular view. (On Own)
